Why do YTYT run a volunteering programme?

In order for Stockport County to survive & prosper, the Club must be run in a sustainable manner.

Many football clubs enjoy practical support provided by organised volunteering programmes, so why should Stockport County miss out?

Through building a programme which provides opportunities for supporters to volunteer & ensuring that fans who step forward are properly organised, we believe that part of the foundations of a sustainable club can be created.

Support is also vital to ensure the smooth running of Your Town Your Team.

Aims of the programme:

The initial aims of the programme are to recruit & utilise volunteers to:

  • drive income into the Club through established income streams such as the Gold Bond Lottery, half-time draw & County Life
  • help reduce avoidable costs by undertaking tasks that the Club currently have to pay for

In addition, through changing the ethos of the Club & the role supporters’ play, we hope to grow the programme & undertake more & more ambitious tasks / projects in due course.

How does the Programme work?

As Club Ambassador, John Fitzpatrick talks to Club officials to find out where support is most needed & how volunteers could be best used. Further opportunities are identified through supporters themselves.

Volunteers are organised / coordinated by Help the Hatters & deployed according to the priorities, aims & objectives determined by John & the Your Town Your Team Coordination Team.

Why volunteer?

Not having an active volunteering programme at Stockport County puts the Club at a disadvantage.

Aside from the satisfaction gained from doing their bit for the Club, volunteers also enjoy other benefits:

  • meeting & working with other like-minded supporters
  • feeling part of the team
  • developing new skills

Not all volunteering occurs on match day, there are plenty of other interesting & diverse opportunities.

How to Register

Volunteers can either register on-line or complete a form provided on match days at Edgeley Park & will be asked how much time they wish to commit, when they wish to volunteer & what they wish to do.

What happens next?

Once registered, specific opportunities to volunteer will be offered as they become available, whilst being mindful of the details provided at registration. This will not always happen immediately.

After helping out, volunteers can have their name put on the Your Town Your Team Volunteering Role of Honour if they so wish.
